Housing Benefit is paid by your local District Council to help you pay rent. If you are on a low income or receiving other benefits, you may be able to claim Housing Benefit. This will be determined by your status in the UK and your eligibility for benefits, your family circumstances and income. Regarding your status in the UK, you are eligible for Housing Benefit as soon as you are registered on the WRS (see Work section) and continue to remain in employment. You can find out if you are able to receive Housing Benefit by contacting the Revenues and Benefits team at your local District Council. You can get Housing Benefit application forms from Jobcentre Plus or your local District Council Office. They are also available for download from the Council’s website. If need assistance or have any difficulty completing the forms, you can contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau (see Useful Contacts & Advice section).
